Panashe Muzambe, 18, is still feeling overwhelmed after being given the opportunity to run in the Queen’s Baton Relay in Edinburgh on Saturday. Panashe, who coaches football and basketball, was nominated to be a Baton Bearer through the BP Young Leaders Programme 2014 after she expressed a desire to be involved in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Panashe ran with the Baton for 200m, starting outside the Commonwealth Pool on Saturday 14th June, and despite the dark clouds and drizzle, Panashe was in high spirits and had her friends and family there to cheer her on. On the programme’s Facebook page, Panashe wrote: “Thank you all for the support.”
Julia Wallace, Young Persons’ Practitioner at Action for Children Scotland, said: “It’s a great honour for Panashe to be carrying the Baton here in Edinburgh. Panashe is passionate about sports and is already involved in many after school coaching activities. Carrying the Baton is something that she can be proud of and look back on for years to come.”
Panashe will also be volunteering at the Commonwealth Games in July and hopes to go on and study Sports Science at Napier University in September.
