Athlete mentor Andy Burns wins at the British Open!

Andy Burns, Judoka and athlete mentor on the BP Young Leaders Programme 2014, picked up a fantastic result at the weekend winning the British Open. Andy said:”I was really chuffed with my performance!” And so you should be Andy – a massive congratulations from all of us!

Over 300 judoka were in action at K2, Crawley, with 29 countries represented in the two-day long event.

France topped the final medal table with a total of 19 medals, including four golds. Great Britain were second with The Netherlands third.

Andy Burns started the Great Britain charge in style with a powerful display in the -90kg category, winning by ippon after being a yuko up against Netherlands athlete Michel Verhagen. He earlier beat Gary Hall in the semi-final.
